Board of Directors

  Kathy Anderson
Kathy and her husband, Howard Rosenbaum, along with their two beloved cats, moved to Indiana from the Syracuse area in 1993 after Howard accepted a teaching position at Indiana University. Kathy has also worked at IU for 14 years. In 2005, she began her current position as a project manager with the National Survey of Student Engagement in the IU School of Education. The Anderson-Rosenbaum household is currently run by three highly intelligent and good-looking cats, Eli, Isabel, and Finn – all rescued.

  Eileen Balliet
Eileen has lived in Bloomington her entire life. She currently lives with her husband Lee and their beloved dog, Hayden, obtained from a sanctuary. She has three grown children, two of whom are still in Bloomington (Billy and Ann) and one who lives in Seattle (Ruth).  Eileen has worked in various capacities for Indiana University for over 35 years and will most likely retire in June 2012.  Eileen came to Pets Alive through its major fundraising event, the breakfast, enjoyed herself immensely, and decided at the breakfast that a nonprofit spay/neuter and vaccination clinic was terrific. Her dog, Hayden, came from a dog sanctuary that is headquartered west of Spencer in Owen County. Hayden has been duly neutered, is extremely intelligent, and a great leaper of fences!  He is adored!

  Martha Blood
Martha has helped to connect over 200 foster felines and small dogs with their forever homes through her volunteer work with Pets Alive Adopt-A-Pets events, Petfinder.com, Bloomington Animal Care and Control, and rescue organizations. Martha moved to Bloomington in 1999 to start a new business enterprise for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), a professional higher education association headquartered in downtown Bloomington. She serves as the Director of Corporate Partnerships and Chief Operating Officer of ACUI Procure. Her current "fur family" includes six felines - Aphrodite, Achilles, Lovey, St. Nicholas, Rudy, and Peter Pan – and five dogs – Madeline, Oliver, Bernard, Jack and Maci.

  Martina Chance
Martina started as a volunteer at Pets Alive, working vaccination clinics and assisting in the surgery room. Martina's love and compassion for animals and their welfare brought her to Pets Alive and the mission of ending pet overpopulation. Over the years, Martina has served on several not-for-profit boards in Bloomington and helped raise donations for various charities. Martina is the Vice President of Mortgage Lending at United Commerce Bank. She and her husband, John, live on the north side of Bloomington with their dog, three cats, and nine chickens.

  Hillary Feldmeyer-Detty
A native "Bloomingtonian", Hillary has always had a love for all animals. After adopting a shelter dog in 1997 (Hailey, who is still going, albeit at a slower pace), and seeing all of the animals at the shelter at that time, she knew there was a lot to be done to reduce the number of pets being senselessly euthanized and she wanted to be involved in getting that done. Skip ahead to the opening of Pets Alive, three more dogs and four cats being added to her home, and the match is something that just makes sense. Hillary has three young children, works for the Monroe County History Center and is married to Justin Detty (Marsh Supermarkets).

  Sally Freeland
Having grown up in a house that was always filled with cats and dogs, Sally grew to love animals at a young age.  She is currently a doctoral student at IU and works as a singer, voice teacher, and dance fitness professional.  When she’s not working, you can find her at home researching and cooking new vegetarian recipes with help from her furry friends.  She and her husband Jon share their home with two cats adopted from Indiana shelters, Abe and Belle.  Sally is passionate about animal welfare and is very thankful for the joy and love animals bring to her life.

  John Kamstra
John shares his passion for dogs and cats with his wife, Karla, who founded the spay/neuter clinic in 2005. When not helping care for their five dogs and foster cat, he loves his role as "Pappy" to five grandchildren. John has been at Cook Medical for over 25 years, where he is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

  Kathleen "Casey" Kersey
Casey is a retired teacher and is enjoying her volunteer work for animals. She taught Speech and Theatre for 35 years, and is teaching part time as an Adjunct Professor through Vincennes University at Center Grove High School for dual credit. She is passionate about caring for abused and lonely animals. Kathleen adopted a Springer mix named Mr. Peepers, who brings a smile to her face every day. Mr. P. has a brother who was given up, because the owner had to move, and his name is Jake. They all live in Unionville, Indiana, on Lake Lemon and love to boat.

  Miles Parker
Miles was born and raised in Bedford, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington. He is an insurance agent with Parker Group and an active supporter of animal kindness and community organizations. Miles currently lives in Bedford with his wife, daughter, and their extraordinary Miniature Pinscher, Neumann, who enjoys many nicknames, including "Neutered".

  Carol Rhodes
Carol has volunteered her services for Pets Alive since spring of 2005, helping with feral cat transportation, newsletter creation, and Web development. She is a longtime supporter of animal welfare groups, environmental groups, as well as local and regional arts. She serves as officer of the Bloomington Watercolor Society and enjoys painting when she is not working as a computing education and training developer for Indiana University. Her core family includes husband Roger, two young adult daughters, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and five cats.

  Adam C. Roberts
Adam is a lifelong Hoosier born and raised in Central Indiana. He is a classic "dog person" and grew up in a home with spayed and neutered rescued dogs as pets, often having more than one at a time. As such, Adam has a deep appreciation for the loyalty and unconditional love we receive from our pets, as well as for the commitment that pet owners must make to assure that their animals live long, healthy, and happy lives. In 2005, upon completion of his Kelley School of Business five-year undergraduate degree in accounting, he found his job offer from the local office of BKD, LLP to be irresistible. Adam married his college sweetheart, Andrea, in 2006, and they started their family this past year with the birth of their son, Carter.

  Jill Robinson
Jill, a Bloomington native, graduated from Indiana University, where she received a BS in accounting. After beginning her career in public accounting, she has been fortunate to work for CS Property Management for 12 years. She got her first pound-rescue Persian in 1994. Her second Persian had spent his first year living in a cage until he was brought home. Now she can't imagine life without her furry friends. She considers herself fortunate to live in a community where pets and their welfare are valued.

  Erika Rudd
Erika developed a love for animals at a very young age. Animals played an important role in Erika's life when she was battling cancer as a teenager and received regular visits from therapy dogs while in the hospital. Currently, she is the Development Director for the Monroe County YMCA. Before working for the YMCA, she worked as the Development Director for a hospital foundation in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She received her MPA in nonprofit management from the School of Public and Environment Affairs at Indiana University. She and her husband, Scott, live in Brown County with their two dogs, Oscar and Mya.

  Randy Scherer
Randy is a Regulatory Scientist at Cook Medical and has lived in Bloomington with his wife Mandy since January 2010. Randy received his bachelor’s of science degree in biochemistry from the University of Evansville and his doctorate degree in materials science and engineering from Vanderbilt University. Randy is an avid dog lover who grew up on a farm in Evansville, IN with family pets as a part of daily life. Randy and Mandy currently share their house with Bella, a boxer rescue whose crazy boxer wiggles always make them laugh and glad to come in the front door. Their family enjoys outdoor activities such as gardening, fishing, and hiking.

  William Spalding
Will is the owner of Spalding LLC, a law firm in Bloomington. Among other organizations, he is an active volunteer for the District 10 Pro Bono Project and the Protective Order Project. He is also a board member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana. He and his wife, Errin, have two wonderful tots: Hud and Sadie Mae. His family also includes three dogs and two-and-a-half cats (one of which is remarkably "bigger-boned"). One of his dogs, Jeff Newton, is a proud alumnus of the Pets Alive clinic!

  Jennifer Van Horn
Jennifer is very passionate about dogs and cats and has had many animal children over the years. She became acquainted with Pets Alive by taking her cats to the spay/neuter clinic. She has been the Manager of Network Distribution for University Information Technology Services at Indiana University for over five years. The animal household is led by a beautiful and fun tabby cat named Izzy and includes two dogs, Abby (the Labby) and Sammy, a loving Havanese, and three other cats, Bet, TT, and Mama. Izzy and Mama are rescued strays, and Mama delivered Bet and TT two days after being adopted.
