pawprint How your donation to Pets Alive saves lives:

  • The more contributions Pets Alive receives the lower we can keep our fees for spay/neuter surgery.
  • The lower those fees, the more people will spay/neuter their pets.
  • The more cats and dogs that are spayed or neutered, the fewer unwanted litters of puppies and kittens there will be.
  • The fewer cats and dogs being born, the fewer that will come into shelters they enter a life and death competition for limited adoption homes.
So it all comes down to this:
  • The fewer unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, the fewer homeless cats and dogs will be destroyed.

pawprint Ending the everyday cruelty of pet overpopulation/euthanasia

The Crisis

dog litter Over 3 million homeless, helpless cats and dogs are destroyed every year in the U.S. because there are too many pets and not enough homes. Adoption efforts and foster care are critical to get animals out of the shelters, but there are simply nowhere near enough adoption homes for all the cats and dogs being born. There is a severe pet overpopulation crisis in America costing millions of cats and dogs their very lives

The Solution

We can end this everyday cruelty by preventing unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. The key is to minimize the number the cats and dogs coming into the shelters in the first place. And there is a consensus among those who know and love companion animals — the best way to end the tragedy of homeless pet euthanasia is to spay and neuter as many cats and dogs as possible. The overpopulation problem will be dealt with one way or another. Pets Alive exists so that we use preventive surgery rather than lethal injection to do so.

The Challenge

The major obstacle to ending the crisis is money. Most people who do not spay or neuter their pets cannot afford the typical fees for surgery. This is why Pets Alive exists. Through the generosity of our donors we subsidize the actual full cost of every surgery we do to keep the price of spay/neuter as low as possible.
cat litterPets Alive will never sacrifice the quality of its medical protocols and procedures. But we know that the lower the fee, the more people will spay/neuter their pets and the more cats and dogs will be saved from euthanasia.
